Laguna Esmeralda: a natural beauty amidst mountains

We depart from your lodging to the east along National Route 3 up to kilometer 20 approximately. It is about 30 minutes by the only National Route of Tierra del Fuego that takes us into the Fuegian valleys. Once there, we will start the hike to the Esmeralda Lagoon: it is approximately 5 km one way where we will cross two totally different valleys: the first one is the Tierra Mayor Valley which is 250 meters above sea level and the second one is the Esmeralda River Valley. We will spend about two hours hiking through pristine forests, peat bogs, beavers, mountains and glaciers that will delight us with their vivid colors. Nature surrounds us throughout the circuit. Around midday, we will arrive at Laguna Esmeralda. It’s time for those unique and personal photos. Time for contemplation and enjoyment of this natural beauty that the lagoon offers us. The picnic will be ready to enjoy: fruits, cereals, alfajores and obviously something hot to warm up the body and motivate the return along the same trail.

What should I take into account when trekking to Laguna Esmeralda from Ushuaia?

• Wear waterproof, high-top shoes
• Wear a waterproof coat
• Wear head and hand warmers
• Wear waterproof pants
• Carry a bottle of water
• Bring snacks

For this excursion it is MANDATORY to have trekking boots and waterproof clothing.
