An Adventure in the Heart of the Perito Moreno Glacier

Discover the Perito Moreno Glacier from the inside with this full-day experience starting in El Calafate. Aboard our comfortable buses, you will begin the journey to Los Glaciares National Park, while our expert guides share fascinating information about the region, the activity, and the glacier.
The journey begins at the port of Bajo de las Sombras, located 70 km from El Calafate. There you will embark on a short but impressive 20-minute crossing of Lake Rico, with unforgettable views of the majestic south face of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Upon reaching the other side, specialized mountain guides will welcome you at the refuge. The group will be divided into small subgroups for a more personalized experience. The adventure begins with a two-hour hike on the moraine, a route that offers spectacular views of the glacier and the surrounding forest.

Once on the ice, equipped with crampons, helmets, and harnesses, you will begin a challenging but safe trek. Groups of up to 10 people will always be accompanied by two mountain guides who will be responsible for safety and providing you with information about the fascinating world of ice.

Big Ice is an experience for adventure lovers, with a high level of physical demand due to uneven terrain both in the forest and on the glacier. However, every step is worth it: you will discover deep blue lagoons, imposing crevasses, giant sinkholes, and even ice caves that seem to come from another world.

For approximately three hours, you will explore the heart of the glacier, surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. You will enjoy a half-hour lunch break in a simply unparalleled setting, with views of the Dos Picos, Pietrobelli, and Cervantes mountains.

At the end of the ice tour, you will return to the refuge for a well-deserved rest and a few more minutes of contemplation. The adventure culminates with the return trip, skirting close to the imposing south face of the glacier before returning to El Calafate.
